In keeping with the SPX Children’s Ministry’s emphasis on Catholic Social Teaching, we will undertake several service projects this year in order to reflect our belief in the dignity of each human person.
Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive:
All year, bring in jars of peanut butter and/or jelly when you come for Religious Education class. Leave them in the box in the lobby. The peanut butter and jelly will be donated to Beans & Bread Outreach Center in Baltimore City. Beans & Bread uses approximately 10 jars each of peanut butter and jelly every day.
Change for Change:
All year, please send in loose change or bills to contribute to our Change for Change program. Encourage your children to do jobs around the house to earn extra change to contribute. We will keep track of the contributions, and each week we will provide an update via our website: cm.stpius10.org. This year all money will go to sponsor a kindergarten student in Haiti. Our goal will be $300.00, which will provide tuition, meals, books, medical and dental care for the student for the entire year. This will be done through the Archdiocesan Office of the Propagation of Faith’s Haiti Outreach Project.
Candy Cane Drive:
At Christmastime, we will once again collect candy canes to be donated to Cool Kids Campaign, a local organization that helps children who are fighting cancer. Our Middle School students will tie notes to the candy canes, which will be sent to children in hospitals around the area.
